Case Studies
Remediation - Leamouth £4.6 million
A former Pura Foods Factor with a long previous industrial history, the site was 45,000 sq m on the peninsular adjacent to the River Lea. Operating under our own E.A mobile treatment licenses and WAMITAB supervision the works consisted of breaking out and crushing existing slab and removal of pile caps and underground obstructions to a depth of 4 meters.
The existing river wall had to be exposed to show all tie rods and anchor blocks and surveyed in depth to allow assessment by the E.A and a ground water treatment system was installed to prevent contamination of the water table and adjacent water courses. Contaminated 'hotspots' were identified excavated and treated on site to allow inclusion of materials within the works.
A full-unexploded ordnance survey was carried out and all associated backfill regrade and off site disposal were undertaken and full testing, GPS surveying by our own engineer and site validation were completed.
The site utilised all our own operated plant including Jaw Crushers Mobile Screeners and laser guided dual grade D6 Dozer.
Remediation - Shoreham
The site, a former gasworks owned by the Port Authority, required 4000 cube of contaminated soil to be bulk excavated and screened to produce a 50mm down product. Oversize material was automatically separated and crushed as part of the same process. This procedure minimised double handling of contaminated materials leading to savings in cost and a decrease in the potential exposure of site personnel to the contaminated materials.
Processed materials were then fed into a mobile KSF 50 Stabilisation plant where cement was mixed with the screened contaminated soil (locking in all contaminates) to produce 800 - 1000 tonnes of product, which was subsequently used for the construction of a car park on the same site.
This process of cement stabilisation resulted in none of the contaminated soil being removed from site and achieved CBR' of 45 +.
Remediation - Frant
A contaminated site for housing development, KKB Regeneration excavated contaminated hotspots and removed existing drainage runs. Selective screening was used to separate inert material from hazardous waste to minimise off site disposal.
Treatable elements of the waste were then bio - remediated and re used as fill on the site, reducing imported material requirements to achieve a finished site level.
Remediation - Smethwick
An English Partnership and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council project at a .56ha former self-service site in Smetwick.
A full site investigation was undertaken and contaminated areas identified. Results found high levels of TPH in the soils, which were initially screened and remediated using windrows. Once the initial phase was complete biological agents were introduced to the stockpiles with added nutrients.
The stockpiles were regularly tested until the contamination had been reduced to acceptable levels and met with the approval of the authority.
Remediation - Industrial Site Sussex
A fuel spill on an industrial site had contaminated an adjacent Farm land and our client was concerned the contamination would spread. KKB Regeneration efficiently assessed the extent of the spillage and mobilised plant to site within 48 hours notice.
The surface was stripped and the soil tested to identify the extent and nature of spillage and the contaminated soil was stockpiled on a membrane protected area.
This was then removed to a specialised tip and a Validation report supplied to our client. The swift response of KKB Regeneration ensures damage was minimised.
Contract Recycling - Major Aggregate Producer South East
KKB Regeneration has secured a deal to provide a crushing service to a major asphalt / aggregate supplier in the South East of England.
Waste Asphalt is to be crushed at 3 major depots on a round robin basis to the client's specification.
The resulting product is to be re used in a new hot asphalt production. KKB Regeneration has supplemented this by offering other 'Crushing and Screening' services on an ad hoc basis. These include Cone Crushing to resize aggregates, excavating and screening as dug raised ballast, Crushing oversize products for reuse as well as emergency cover for plant and operatives.
